Yes it has been clearly stated that the names are not being changed to those 
written on the pictures. If they are changing it wont be to those. I 
personally hold out hope for this film but it in my eyes anyway will depend 
on the director. A great director can make gold out of anything but a crap 
one can destroy perfection. Lets just wait and see.

PS - Anyone on this list that's actually from Northern Ireland should cheak 
this site (www.dama-con.com). Its an anime club, some friends and I have 
started to show anime on the big screen.

I am actually fairly excited to see what turns out from this movie.
Although I do not really LIKE the character name changes (Rose?  Rose?
You changed from Asuka to Rose so that it reflects the whole red
thing??? Gahhh. ) I can understand that many people who are not
accustomed to Japanese names would not know Katsuragi Misato from any
other name.  Not to mention that I imagine that seeing the movie (which
hopefully will be standalone good) will interest people in seeing the
original.  Keep in mind that it will likely have a vastly different
story-line change, and will almost definitely not have the mind bending
psychological weirdness ending.
