Ha Ha!  :-)~  

I'm still inclined to wonder just what else might have happened during
that period when Rei & Shinji 'disappeared' from Nerv's security net
after their 'would you hold my hand' encounter...  especially
considering that color pic of Rei looking rather rumpled and breathless
at the opening of Japanese vol 9 (printed in my edition with the
action-figure)!  Or am I reading too much into it?  ;->~

Of course, in the case of the Angel's observations in this latest
chapter - I would believe it is commenting on its own views of Rei's
inner fears.  Given her immaturity in relationship matters, it wouldn't
be unreasonable for Rei to experience some jealousy or fear of rejection
for Shinji's concern for Asuka's dreadful condition.  After all, Asuka
is one of the few people Shinji would consider family, so his concern
for her is understandable.  Rei, on the other hand, really only has
Shinji at this point.  So her doubts on the matter would be magnified.

This also begs the question: Is the Angel simply making innocent - if
painful - observations of Rei in an attempt to 'connect' with her?  Or
is it deliberately and malevolently identifying a potential weakness in
Rei's psyche and trying to exploit it to attack her?
