I _so_ agree. Only I hadn't forgotten about the scene after reading BB's
translation >_<.
What shocked me the most was the disserence between anime!Kaworu and
manga!Kaworu... And utter nonsense of the scene.
...Okay, so Shinji couldn't take the kitten with him, fine, the Nerv staff
is not allowed to keep the pets, it's not like there's a penguin in Misato's
house already. Okay, Shinji couldn't take the kitten, so poor thing had to
die a terrible, horrible death. It's not like Kaworu wanted to go to
Shinji's school anyway, it's not like there were a lot of schoolgirls who
probably would have been more than happy to pet and feed and cuddle the cute
tiny ball of fur >_<'.
Speaking of Kaworu's sudden urge to visit Shinji's school, it dissappears as
soon as he actually sees the building, and poor little confused angel
decides he would rather see his Eva... But Evas' not as interesting as
red-haired, angsty girls in, pardon the word, ladies' toilets, it seems ;).
Actually, if not for the kitten torture (which shocked me greatly ;_;) I
would have laughed my head off over manga!Kaworu's antics. And his (much too
small) soap XD...
The same goes for Kaji and his his story. I can't help but wonder whe the
soldiers didn't take Kaji with them. If he lied, they would have to come
back to the base, beat him up, force him to tell them the actual location of
his friends, go to the place... And if he lied again, they would have to
repeat the process XD. Wouldn't it be much easier to just take the boy with
them..? Not to mention Kaji actually manages to escape the soldier (a rifle
versus soda can...)...
This scene hadn't shocked me half as much as the kitten scene... Not only it
seemed a bit, well, unrealistic for a lack of better word, but I've also
lost my sympathy for manga!Kaji after that stage. Mostly because poor thing
is retarded. His explanation would make sense in a head of 13-years old, but
he's old and should know better.
I cannot help liking anime-Kaji more... He seems, well, wiser ;). But that's
only IMHO.
...I think I gotten off-topic ;).
Back to Kaworu.
I think that discussing his actions is somewhat pointless, as everyone
probably has his own opinion (although sharing the opinion with the rest of
the ML would be nice:) ). One of my fellow countrymen has even said that
Kaworu in manga seems more human and his actions are better explained
(Which made me drop my jaw to the floor... I guess it only shows how
different views on manga can be :) ).
For me Kaworu doesn't seem nor human, nor inhuman... How should I put it in
words..? He seems like a being which was supposed to be inhuman, but it's
creator made him, well... "Overkill" it's the first word which comes to my
mind.. In the end, Kaworu's actions seem pointless, he just wanders around
the manga back and forth trying to look cool and failing more or less
spectacularly. It probably _would_ have been cool, had the plot been more
logical, less fanboyish and less PWP-cal. But that's only IMHO :D.
Ah, sorry for such a long rant. And spelling mistakes, my English is far
from perfection >_<'.
