fact that I have seen either bipassed or dismissed during similar arguments
in the past. I've yet to see it dealt with sufficiently in those instances.

Neither a flesh, nor a mother/child emotional bond seem to factor into
Shinji's synchronization with Unit-02, he reaches a new high, and he and
Asuka do the impossible and move Unit-02 underwater in B-type equipment.

presented here?

I had this problem before. What I ended up concluding is that the flesh
factor isn't totally determinant. Probably anybody can synch with anybody,
but higher results will come from those flesh-bonded.

> EBJ: Earlier you two debated as to whether Shinji completely synchronized
with Unit-00? That was during the cross-synchronization experiement, as you
know. It takes place in Episode 14. Shinji does not completely synchronize
with Unit-00 before it goes haywire. He successfully sychronizes with it
through Second Contact phase, but when they start the Third Contact phase
(specifically when they connect to the A-10 Nerve) everything falls apart.
That will save you some research hopefully.

He gets a synchro rate in the end. Besides, if it was destined to fail, why
do such an interchange? And if the flesh theory doesn't work, then why Rei
synchs with Yui, and Ritsuko says that's possible because "similar
personality patterns are shared..."?

The only extravagant case was Kaworu, when they tested him even though they
knew that should not work, without replacing the core.
