Today I watched episodes #1 to #8 in a mini-marathon. I watched the
Gainax pre-Renewal version DVDs (for nostalgia).
Fresh from that I noted/re-noted a few things;
When 00 went beserk the first time (Rei in the plug), 00 was punching
at the widow behind which Gendou was standing. Ritsuko was at the
back, Gendou was the target if any human was.
Ritsuko (to Misato) said , that (as posted here) Rei ws then less sure
of herself to lose control. But then, (paraphrasing) "unless its
because...no it can't be". Could be a red herring, or that she had a
suspicion of another reason. Because Rei passed the second
assimilation test, Ritsuko probably dismisssed it.
Later Ritsuko, talking to Misato about Rei, said all her records had
been deleted & they were started afresh. We all know about this, but
Ritsuko's *tone* of voice had a slight mystification in it. As though
she knew so much, but hadn't been told everything. Perhaps the records
were deleted after Rei I. It made me wonder what Ritsuko was told
about the circumstances of Rei I's & Naoko's deaths.
Misato going into the Jet Alone (JA) robot in episode #7, seemed very
like Usagi's desperate entry into potentially lethal enviroments in
Sailor Moon to save people. She is very brave (& lovely). 3 times she
oversaw the defeat of angels on her own without Gendou, just playing
hunches & being innovative. Shinji is truly immature (or the others
over-hormonal?) not to appreciate her.
Last, I was struck by how young Gendou's voice sounds for a typical
Japanese authority figure. About the same as Char in Gundam maybe.
