IIRC, belonging, conforming and referring to society and the various
subgroups is central in Japanese society, much more than in western
societies. Society validates an individual and gives him purpose,
boundaries, the self is defined by the others (ATFields, anyone?).
Asuka is more of an 'outsider' built to appear like one to a Japanes
