Hi!
> So, Traveller, Cyberpunk and CoC, eh? I see you're a glutton for
punishment! (Actually, I love all three of those, but I still
remember dying during character creation in the old black-books
edition of Traveller...) <
Yeah, those little-book editions of TRAVELLER were a strong part of my
formative high-school years, along with early 80s anime, old
MACROSS/YAMATO/DOUGRAM & DORVACK model kits, NPR radio dramas & British
TV on PBS. Still got my whole collection! Late last year, Marc Miller
was actually selling (on eBay) the original artwork that appeared in
various rules books and JOURNAL OF THE TRAVELLER' AID SOCIETY issues. I
think the cover art for the first issue (classic Scout Ship scene) went
for like $250+. All of 'em were about the same size they were finally
printed in, as well! :-)
Speaking of RPGs/Japanese RPGs - I used to have the Takara DOUGRAM
"Battle of Kalnock" miniatures game, which came with about 20 little
diecast Dougram mechs, a playing board with plastic trees and little
periscopes so you could sight on the game board with a mech's-eye POV.
20th Century Imports provided a little translation booklet of the rules,
that any wargamer could see was missing elevation/line-of-sight &
targeting rules that had charts in the Japanese rulebook. That was a
blast. Sold mine with some regret - I think to an on-line buddy named
Roger Harkavy, who's a regular at www.toyboxdx.com and columnist for
SUPER 7 magazine.
Thanks! I could go on for hours... :-)~
