Impact would be entirely legitimate. There's plenty of room to detail
the older two generations of characters, and you could even bring in
the Children near the end. Of course, that wouldn't excuse such a
prequel from having to be *good.*

I'd be ecstatic to have Sadamoto designing new characters.
But DO NOT want to have FLCL or Gunbuster 2 character designs.
Or anything like the Angelic Days ones either.

Rather have the live action movie so it can be ignored & leave Eva
anime alone.
