Very much so, and I have also thought about those cases.

In fact, with that in mind I want to clarify that my translation of  
Kaworu's lines focuses on the words and grammar as they appear.   
Given our lack of perfect information on souls and merging in the  
Evaverse, the possibility that Gainax/Sadamoto "screwed up the  
dialog" or "really meant to say something else" cannot be ruled out.   
However, it would be practically impossible to prove this, which is  
why I label it as "100% speculation" (not in a bad sense -- just  
unprovable).  This is why my translation focused only on the Japanese  
as it is, because other interpretations involve way too many  
questionable definitions and assumptions.
