Subject: Re: [EVA]Yui Ikari Is A Bitch
: I've had the impression that she was aware of what would be
happening in
: the near future (Seele's plans for the Third Impact, etc) - perhaps
more
: than Gendo was - and sacrificed her ability to be an active part of
her
: family's lives for a chance to turn events in a possible better
: direction.
:
: I think she was aware of the unavoidable heartache she'd cause her
son
: and husband, and tried to be there for Shinji in some capacity given
her
: newfound circumstances, and for him when it was time for him to make
: that final critical decision.

@@Hmm. Anno had an issue or two with mothers generally, which affected
how he wrote them in Eva IIRC. Perhaps Yui is the Eva mother closest
to his own.
Yui was deep in with SEELE/Gehrin before Fuyutuski & Gendou met her.
My impression was that her work/theories were influential, based on
Fuyutuski's reminiscences (which were slightly affectionate) in "Birth
of NERV".
Yui's conversation with Fuyutuski by the lake in the DC episodes,
however indicates that her choice as sacrifical sheep was "voluntary",
& I believe she was acting under assumed or actual threat to both
Shinji & Gendou. Impression got from the warning she gave Fuyutuski
that SEELE could eliminate & wipe out all traces of a person & his/her
family.
So, Yui was in it for the science, & perhaps a hope for an ultimately
better existence. But she was in too deep & when her final duty was
dictated to her, she chose the path where her family would be left
alone, hoping Gendou (who she only knew as a nicer, more loving
character) would be there for Shinji.
Anyone have theories about Asuka's mother?
