Well, considering that the short version preview were always added as a
special bonus in the original VHS/LD releases, and considering that the
'short version' epi21-24 were kind of bonuses as well, it's pretty much
possible they were not edited with the long version preview anyway. But I
doubt those were included with furigana for the title, etc. Most likely the
reference to the 'originally aired' version was just to have a difference
inbetween longer version (so called 'director's cuts') and shorter version
(called TV original version).

You are right, I've done a bit of research on THE source of information for
any Japanese merchandise: YahooJapanAuction! ^^

Genesis 0:X was a 'complete purchase benefit' for the original LD release.
It's a bonus LD with a single jacket (not a double one as the regular
Genesis), the cover is the one I was referring about (Kaworu in Plug Suit by
Honda Takeshi, the top Eva artist). This extra LD *do not* fit in any of the
original three LD-box, which were issued with the first presses of LD
Genesis 0:1, 0:6 and 0:10 respectively (but the first one having been
re-print also).

This is most likely true, but I doubt they did anything against the licensor
agreement. Fact is the licensor was most likely King Record or Starchild,
not directly Gainax. If not, Gainax would have NOT provided the master for
the ep.21-26 in their pure TV form (furigana, etc). At the time, the home
video masters for those episode do not even existed in Japan. No 'long
version' trailers had been even prepared. As a matter of fact, the LD/VHS
release scheduled got delayed and delayed in Japan. And the 'longer version'
were not even planned till a certain point, which came in during the
production of the movies.

One could just speculate about it, you know. ^^; Well at least as far as the
revision work went, that's the ultimate edit, yes. It's also the very only
one even released in any homevideo form, and also the one presented in the
final Road Show / movie form of Evangelion.

Yeah, and I must admit the re-dub of the Rebirth footage in the Air is
frankly way superior to the original one. Also some cuts are been edited I
think, such as the zooming on Nigouki at the bottom of the underground lake
in the Geofront (when the Eva is in the the fetus posture, you know).

And BTW, what do you exactly mean by "the secret of whose soul is in Unit00
was removed"?

Yet, Rebirth is present only in the ORIGINAL release, say VHS, LD or DVD,
but the original ones.

With the original release you get the movie footage in all its form:
correctly inserted in the series as episodes (an with their proper editing
for that purpose), and in the 'full feature movie form', sei both D&R and
EoE. That's basically the very reason because I say all the DVD-boxes are
shit: presenting, they just add Revival of Eva to the incomplete series, and
you miss 1) Ep245' and 36' in their 'series edit' + 2) Rebirth. Nothing like
good or smart or logical if you ask me.

Which home video release contain this 'fake' version of Rebirth, actually?

G.
