That they did, and yes it did piss off Gainax and sour them against  
overseas distribution companies.  In fact, one could easily make a  
case that ADV's actions were responsible for delaying the overseas  
release of EoE, since it was one factor behind the excessive price  
hike for the movie rights.  ("Fine, if we are going to get screwed,  
then we will make sure to get enough money for it that we won't care.")
