Did you enjoy the original story all that much, then? It's difficult for me
to compare the manga and the anime in my head because I always more-clearly
remember the version I most recently went through, but I'd say Sadamoto's
gotten the characters down pretty well. The quality of the manga's surprised
me so much that I've always wondered if Sadamoto's been secretly following
some abandoned Anno script--but it seems the dude can tell a story *and*
draw. I'd kill for an animation of the manga. WETA should stop making their
live action movie and fund that instead.
