Ok, that was stupid of Maya. ^^#;
Aside of that, it was a very good stage! Now that he's been able to leave
concessions to fans behind, Sadamoto hasn't produced any disappointing
advancement in the story. He's managed to build a very different Kaworu, put him
in a very different relationship with Shinji, use him to provide insights denied
by the tv series (both to us and the other characters), and in this final stage
he's managed to use him to put Shinji once again in the appropriate condition to
possibly start, if not complete, the Instrumentality process, perhaps in a
fashion that is even more self-consistent than the original. Rather than being a
metaphor for Anno's relationship with reality, this is being presented as an
actual matter of interest for Shinji's character. I also liked very much the way
Shinji reflected about the various aspects of the situation, putting himself in
the same place as Kaworu by killing him yet doing this entirely for himself
(balancing the need to feel the guilt with the fear of it), keeping in mind all
things lost and left, and finally questioning the worth of it all. That's much
more active thinking than the tv character would've been apt to express.
It's also interesting to note how Asuka is both among the lost things (as she was
before?) and and the ones he wants to protect (a will he may question, but which
he expresses none the less), and how Rei too is among things left to protect,
even though his feelings about her are sure to be mixed, after the revelations
he's had about her.
Excellent stage indeed, thanks for the translation. :D
