ANN's article though says it won't be a remake. Though I suspect that this will be pretty much along the lines of the Utena or Escaflowne films. Same concept, vastly different approach. Sounds like they'll explain things more as well. 

To be honest, I have absolutely no idea how to feel about this. On one hand, the idea of more Evangelion is interesting, as it is one of the best titles out there. It'll pretty much justify the continued onslaught of merchandise (the real reason this is being made no doubt - Eva's popularity in Japan is dwindling I hear). On the other hand, the series is perfect as it is. More material might serve as nothing more than to ruin it. 

Of course, the last thing I need is another case where all I ever hear is people whining about how bad the film is compared to the original simply because it isn't the original. "It's darker", "Her hair's too long/short", "It's nothing like the original". I hear this about Escaflowne especially. Last I checked, that was the point.

If anything, hopefully it will kill the Live Action project, or at the very least improve it.
