Why wouldn't they be? They've returned for all of the computer/video games.

They seem to still be quite alive and well in NGE publications...

NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR YER MOVIES, EH?!?
M, do you plan to translate the entire article? That would be s-weeeeeet.
Something must be done about the wretched translations of the "scoop"
floating around the Internet right now. I've stepped up and protested,
"Gyahhh, no, that's not what it says!" on some points, but I'd take me
forever to do a whole article.

<<Literally? "Evangelion New Cinema Edition"
(or "Theatrical Version", if you prefer)>>

"The Movie" (or, less frequently, "The Motion Picture") to something being
adapted for the big screen. Didn't the English-speaking narrator in those
D&R trailers go, "EVANGELION THE MOVIE: DEATH AND REBIRTH!" at the end? The
Japanese equivalent would be "Evangelion Gekijouban: Shi to Shinsei".

If they're gonna do CG, I really hope they don't cheap out with it. It would
be nice if the art direction were similar to that in the NPCs and EoE. And
with Yamashita on board, hopefully the poor Evas won't be afflicted with Man
In Suit Syndrome.

I suppose there is still the possibility of relevant flashback scenes. I
want Dr. Katsuragi to have a full countenance and name and an actual voice
with all my heart and soul... (Being, you know, his sole fangirl and all.)
Meantime, I guess I'll just have to pretend. GIVE ME AKIRA ISHIDA OR GIVE
ME... a pie in the face.
Waiting for a good translation into English and the DVD release in Japan is
gonna be incredibly painful.
