Just turn the question of:
"May a grown-up man [thus not an otaku] still like anime?"
into
"May I consider myself a grown-up man even if I can't but stull like anime?"
I think this is the very point, say the growing pain conflict of an "otaku
with a brain", which is pretty much the definition of an ethnic minority in
the otakuzoku, which proved to be brainless in its vast majority. The
non-understanding of Evangelion by the otakuzoku is the final proof of this,
IMHO.
