I think the "WEVA" spelling is actually a good idea. It gives a quick 
visual and textual reminder of exactly which "version" of Evangelion is 
being discussed.

It might be slightly tongue in cheek, but lets not forget that Gainax 
themselves have changed the spelling of Evangelion in katakana. So in 
that sense, WEVA is simply the English translation of the new 
spelling(If you regard the "w" as silent).
