> Anyone willing to discuss/refresh me on the matter?Soul Transference Theory was mostly rebuked and replaced with Soul Salvage Theory. Soul Transference Theory was mainly designed to explain how Rei's soul went from one body to another. But dialog in Episode 23 suggests that NERV actually found the soul in the wreckage of Unit-00 and was able to take it and transplant it physically.Let me get back to basics here. The cases of soul transference seen in EVA are as follows:Adam: Soul implanted in Kaworu.Lillith: Soul implanted in Rei.Rei: Soul moves from Rei I to II to IIIYui: Soul entered Unit 01.Kyouko: Part of soul entered Unit 02. (Recent revelations hold that partial soul theory is accurate, despite previous ML belief to the contrary.)Theoretically, someone related to Touji was implanted into Unit 03, and people of no importance to the series might have had their souls placed into Units 04-13.The mechanism by which souls enter the Evangelion is first contact synchronization in the case of Yui, who achieved 400%. Kyouko did not achieve 400%, (since she wasn't mentioned when it happened to Shinji) explaining why she only partially lost her soul to the EVA. Theoretically the other EVAs had souls implanted into them in a similar manner. Shove a pilot in it and turn it on. (There is another possibility though. Read on.)Lillith's soul was theoretically in her body and available for transplantation into the soulless Rei. (Clones not having souls in the EVA mythos.) Adam's body was in embryonic state, and recovered by SEELE. Whether Kaworu was created out of the aftermath of Second Impact with Adam's soul already inside of him, or created by SEELE later with the soul extracted from the embryo remains unclear. Now, the problem becomes what happens to souls upon death? Does Rei's soul transmigrate to another body upon death, or does her soul remain in the corpse until NERV is able to salvage it and infuse it into another form? Episode 23 implies the latter. EoE also seems to imply that at least for sometime, souls don't go anywhere after death but have to be collected. So this theory indicates that a soul can be salvaged. NERV just needs to recover the body and suck the soul out of it and put it into a new vessel. This might be what was meant by Unit03's core preparation. The idea that NERV has the souls of the dead mothers of everyone in Shinji's class and keeps them in storage for later is quite chilling, but makes the most sense.Comments?Peter Svensson
