Non-existent arguments? How exactly is an S/R manga romance non-existent?
Case in point: Rei and Shinji's various hand-holding and the lines about
that, Shinji wanting to hit Kaworu after Rei 2's death, Shinji's shock at
her death (to the point of: "and everyone has died. Ayanami, Nagisa, and
even Kaji.")

Hell, I'm a diehard S/A fan, and yet I at least acknowledge the differences
between the anime and manga in this aspect!
