Actually, I don't agree in the least. Considering what has surfaced recently 
(though it was well known in Japan since at least 1998) about Sadamoto's pivotal 
role in Eva in terms of concept just as much as in terms of character design, to 
say he's "changed" characters is wrong. The manga itself started before the anime 
and so, if anything, it'd be the other way around, but in reality they always 
were parallel projects. And considering how he has managed the characters, I 
seriously doubt that the severed arm would be his choice.

As a matter of personal preference, I put the two versions on the same level, 
though in terms of pure personality I certainly prefer the manga version.
