>So I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but get over it. :/
I meant that I was done talking about that, too! ^^; I'm sorry if it didn't
come across that way...
By the way, are you Bochan_bird who did translations for the Evaotaku site?
Mangle's translation of the films (if you can call it that...) isn't as
anywhere near as good as yours is. >_< (Their translations of the Shinji's
saitei da orette, Misato's lines about the Angels, and Asuka's final line
are more or less questionable to say the least. I'm hoping they'll fix that
when( if??) they bring Renewal The Feature Films over here. *sigh* (I'd
prefer if somebody like ADV got it, at least their translations are decent
and they have no "Commentary of Evil" (read: the AWL EoE commentary
*shudders* )
Anyway, in terms of Eva's themes...
>Personally, I feel that the last line of Evangelion being an expression of
sickness or disgust works well as a commentary on the series as a whole,
seeing as it was created based on such feelings, is full of them, and is
sometimes labelled as provoking them. To me, this is a far more effective
reading of "kimochi warui" beyond speculating on what it specifically means
in just that moment. The way it's delivered--immediately cutting to the
end--sounds more like last words or a summation.
>As an aside, the themes of rejection, rebellion, and
subjugation/harmonisation of the human spirit have kinda been how I have
always viewed the show. To me its akin to a passion play.
Very interesting points by both of you. Although I personally see EoE (and
concurrently, EoTV), as being an ending of hope [no matter how bad
depression/life can get], going through what Asuka, Shinji and Rei went
through would be bound to make ANYBODY feel that way! Espeically knowing
Anno-sensei had depression before (and during?) his creating Eva, the
main(?) theme of learning to love others and yourself (ie: The Beast that
shouted I "ai" at the heart of the world (it supposedly can mean I AND ai
(love)---Shinji learns to love himself thus being able to love others. ^_^))
as well as the theme of having hope with life REALLY strikes a chord with
me.
But that's just me. ;)
