I call bullshit. He's credited with character designs and a token credit as 
co-creator. Anno did almost all the writing, and pretty much any of 'his 
version' seen in the manga are intentional changes made MORE THAN 10 YEARS 
after the original just to make it seem different. If he thought up any of 
that crap back when the anime was being made i'd eat the rag top off a 
jeep...
