Only Sadamoto's.  But Asuka is not for Shinji. He only talks to her &
seeks her when he thinks Rei & Misato have abandoned him.  Think back
to the last EoE.
Shinji sees Rei for a second over the LCL sea, its the only instant he
perks up in that last scene. Rei represents hope & sanity, Asuka
represents more mixed feelings & turbulence.  Both are straws he needs
to grasp.

Rei has a deep almost or actual spiritual bond with Shinji that S/A
lovers don't like, but its there.  Asuka represents the
physical-practical-intellectual & so will help Shinji survive as a
human on Earth, but he needs Rei also, IMO, for his soul & inner
calm/zen.  Perhaps as Asuka & Shinji age & mature together, the need
for Rei will diminish as Shinji & Asuka will become closer & more
attatched to each other (tall order of course).
