Not very offensive, either. Mind you, I do believe tangents exceed facts on
that board, but I have no interest in disparaging its members, either.
Considering the above with what I said about what 'we' try to do on this ML
though, it should be pretty clear why I wouldn't use 'conclusions' drawn
there here.

Conversely, why go on wild directions when he's probably had the framework
in his mind for over ten years? One gets the impression, from the interview
M quoted excerpts from, that not only Sadamoto was responsible for many of
the key concepts of Eva as a whole, but also that he had a very specific
idea of what to do with them. This is reinforced by the fact that he felt he
had to take a sabbatical to mull it over when Anno grabbed some of his ideas
and beat him to it through the movies. Also, Evangelion is strongly
identified with certain events. While giving space to innovation is good,
losing key reference points just for the sake of it probably wouldn't have
been. Since his innovation has revolved around variations and explanations
on one side, and around giving his view on the characters on the other, I'd
say changing anything else would've probably made the manga Not Evangelion.
After all, other than this, all there is left to this series is innovative
design (once again, his own), great music, and ( Ideon + Devilman )/2.
