What happens to souls in Eva is the biggest mystery to me. From the
Chamber of Gauf(sp?) which contained only 1 originally, to how Yui's &
Asuka's mother came to have their soul trapped/contained & kept whole,
to how Shinji's soul was re-melded with his reformed body in Eva 01 in
the Sea of Dirac.

What happened to Rei II's?  Obviously Ritsuko was looking for
something after 00 exploded.  She had the clones' parts for spare
anatomy (there must be some process for "putting back together again"
:P ), so was Rei II's part-/soul around/contained/ somehow.  Perhaps
an untold Eva biomechanical feature.

Going back to Rei I, she died first, so if her soul went to Eva 00,
Naoko's would be shut out - if there was an "open door" before.

Was the clone tank in existence when Naoko strangled Rei I, or was it
a later Gendou-Ritsuko idea?  What was the reason Naoko fell to her
death?  Somehow I'm not sure it was suicide.

If there were replacement Reis, Naoko being colder would have known
that another would replace R I.  I don't believe she was so frenzied
she would have leapt to her death over Gendou's reported insults from
the mouth of a child, as she already knew he was using her on the
rebound from Yui.  Naoko was too intelligent - & she'd just finished
the Magi so was probably feeling proud.

So this intelligent & usually cool woman with a jealous streak would
not have acted suicidially.  Either she suffered temporary insanity
from a mental attack, or Rei I in Eva 00 swatted her off the parapet &
she fell to her death.  Eva 00 tried to kill Ritsuko later - IMO
because she was Naoko's daughter, as much as anything Ritsuko herself
was reponsible for.

Perhaps it was some aspect of Yui, but I'm tending to think going
after Ritsuko is more like an animal attacking a familiar/similar
enemy/prey.
