>I hope this doesn't add to any of the confusion of what's being discussed,
>but where do the Video versions* (as opposed to the Theatrical versions) of
>25' and 26' (EoE) fit into the picture of releases?

They were released as follows:

Genesis 0:13 and 0:14 of the original VHS/LD release.
DVD 7 of the original DVD release.
The third Second Impact DVD box set IIRC.

>*The differences between the two: The video versions have the Next Episode
>Previews of Air (seen after the end of 24' on Platinum/Renewal) and My Pure
>Heart for You (just some footage of Gainax's studio(??) while Misato
>babbles
>on about "Ikari Shinji-kun's final decision", I think it's done nicely
>though.)

The next episode preview for 26' is very much a prototype for the KareKano
ED, which likewise was a live action tour of a location in almost the exact
same manner BTW. I have never seen the preview for 25'.

>The only thing I know about those is there were released along with EoTV 25
>& 26 on an LD(??), think it was Genesis 13 or some such thing? Supposedly
>the order on the release, according to LD scans I saw online somewhere was:
>25, then 25', 26, then 26', IIRC.

Right. Genesis 0:13 had 25 then 25'. Genesis 0:14 had 26 and 26'. It was
available in both LD and VHS but pretty much everyone here (who collected
that sort of thing) got it in LD.

>Guess that means Death and the theater
>version of EoE was released on a separate....thing.

A boxset that came out a few months later with Death(true^2) and Rebirth,
and End of Evangelion in their theatrical forms. Individual releases of
those titles came out later.

>Speaking of which, WAS the original Death ever released on Video/LD/DVD, or
>was that only
>Death(true) and or Death(true)^2??

Nope. The only record of what the original Death was like is the filmbook,
or people with photographic memories of what they saw in the original film
showing. Then, when Death and Rebirth aired on satellite-TV channel WoWoW,
Death was reedited to remove most of the new footage to prevent people from
taping D&R and feeling that they wouldn't have to buy the new versions of
21-24. (Also, for artistic reasons, but that's really the major concern
here.) That reedit is Death(true) which is archived in the handful of
fansubs that were done off of that video. Death(true) is the version I saw
at Fanime Con oh so many years ago when I first joined the ML to say "I'm
one of the first people in North America to watch D&R! Yay Me! Thanks
Patrick Yip for your translations!"

Also, I questioned Anno's sanity. Fun times.

When Death was released on home video, it was tweaked one last time into
Death(true^2) though for the most part that naming convention is pretty much
ignored by Gainax. Death(true^2) is also kinda available in filmbook form
IIRC.
