I have extracts translated from Newtype (J) articles in old issues of
Protoculture Addicts. I think its the Anime Expo 96 edition as Anno
was there, LMK if you want the PA#..
>From memory Anno did say he & the others were happy, & the ending was
left ambiguous for viewers to draw their own conclusions.
His creative reason for EoE, & in particular for killing Misato
(sniff) & Ritsuko so individually, was to show the Japanese youth that
life is ugly & cruel & harsh outside the protective enviroments of
home & school.
Anno also said that female fans preferred TV eps 25 & 26, even as
stand alone episodes. EoE is for the violent desires of the action
addicts who were unhappy at his more highbrow original ending.
In reality EoE was the 1st big marketing step to Eva...
With a bit of imagination, I personally put all EoE slightly before
the end of TV #25, but won't elaborate unless asked :P

Subject: [EVA] The EoE Situation
: Apologies if this has been covered to death already... I could have
done
: more research before posting this, but you guys seem like you could
rattle
: off answers (or the next best thing) in about a fiftieth of the
time. ^_^;
:
: One issue that has always been extraordinarily obfuscated in my mind
is,
: what exactly _IS_ the situation with END OF EVANGELION? This is an
issue
: that comes up in the fora I frequent again and again, and, if there
is a
: concise answer, I conveniently forgot what it was.
