I agree that Sadamoto's Reis are more sentient.

"Justified"? In destroying them, in her feelings?  I would have liked
to see how Rei II herself might have reacted had she been there.

The "detrudo release" seems to be some chemical & other agent that
disintegrates organic matter.  Perhaps similar to what was used to
destroy the "dummy" Eva parts when they went wrong. "Liliputian
Invader" episode?
