: :
: : Why do you say that? Also, what do you mean, "if SEELE was
refused"?
:
@ The conversation Yui & Fuyutuski had. Especially what Fuyutuski
said.
: IIRC he was also threatened into visiting Gendou at the geofront
: (which happened in Birth of NERV) &/or returning after 2nd Impact.
One
: thing I miss in the manga is the "history" - although Kaji &
: Ritsuko/Naoko flashbacks have been shown, as well as 2nd Impact's
: explosion, the larger corporate-threat-factor-instigator menace is
: less pronounced. "Birth of NERV" was filler in a sense, but like
: "Mobius Klein" mini-arc in Silent Mobius, its one of the most
: intriguing stories. ^^

: :
: : Keel seemed rather fond of his little sycophant at that point.
Gendo
: was
: : still useful, whereas Yui -- having gotten Project E in full
: swing -- was
: : disposable.:
:
@ And SEELE underestimated Yui's importance to Gendou, seeing him as
: cold as they were themeslves. Gendou regarded Shinji as disposeable
: IMO, & one of the best parts of EoE is both Rei (perhaps her Yui
: part), then Yui herself denying him eternity/entrance to the
"promised
: land" (almost like God denying Moses same in the Old Testament).
:
: : >And was Kyoko also made an offer she couldn't
: : > refuse?
: :
: : I always had these weird ideas about Langley (if the Gendo of
Third
: Branch)
: : cheering Kyoko on to become the test subject -- knowing full well
: that
: : "something bad" would happen -- and Kyoko (if Asuka takes after
her
: at all)
: : taking on the challenge, since she and her team couldn't possibly
: botch
: : things up like their HQ counterparts... Blatant Speculation,
natch,
: since
: : there is so little to work with.
:
@ I always think there was an arms race between NERV & SEELE. Almost
: like a cold war arms race. "Accidents" happened, spys (Kaji) were
: present, sanctions (Kaji!) took place.
:
: NERV led initially, but ultimately SEELE won & conquered, but as a
: phyrric victory because Shinji chose to undo both organisations'
: ambition. The only time he was freed from pressure of authority &
: left to decide off his own conscience & experiences.

: :
: : "Issues" wasn't the best word. This is more Blatant Speculation,
but
: he
: : might have been deterred from looking out for Shinji because (A)
: Fuyutsuki
: : doesn't seem very fond of children (see his reaction to Shinji at
: Yui's CE),
: : and (B) Shinji stands as a rather in-your-face reminder that he
: wasn't the
: : man to get Yui.
:
@ (A) more than (B). Fuyutuski is the Jean Luc Picard of Eva - crusty
: captain/dedicated but philanthopic scientist. Probably would have
got
: along fine with Dr Katsuragi! I think his affection for Yui was
more
: avuncular/paternal/protective & realising she is the next generation
: who will take the world forward. :)
:
: To him the kids are only subalterns, but IMO he is not a people
: person. A Doctor with professional detatchment & a good conscience,
: but confirmed batchelor at heart.
