The whole Sea of Dirac scenario is the most mind-boggling in Eva TV
IMO. I prefer it to the EoE stuff as well.  Sadamoto did well for
Shinji's "trip" in the manga also, probablyy his best original
interpretation of the different bits of story.  Manga seems poorer
since then & I don't know how he can improve on it for EoE to be
honest.

Going back to Yui's "rescue" of Shinji. She did it because she knows
Shinji has a mission, she needs to get him back so things can proceed
towards the inevitable climax. Its as if she can see or guess somehow
into the future, & knows where Shinji can & can't make a difference.
All along Yui in Eva 01 has been protecting Shinji, from the
recovery/1st beserker in episode 2, to Dirac, to Eva 01 going
primordial/bestial, to breaking out of the bakelite in EoE & beyond to
"spoken" telepathic advice & the only mother-to-son chat she will ever
have with him during complementation. (I think Misato, Gendou & Kaji
realise how important Shinji is, when Shinji is leaving the second
time, Misato says they had all hoped he would deliver them from the
dire situation - that scene is better in the anime)

Finally, did Kyoko "do" anything for Asuka, apart from make her click
emotionally, & jump start her psyche back to life?  Asuka was
decomposing in 02 in the lake, did she have a partial "rebuild" from
Kyoko similar to Shinji's but on a smaller scale ^^, & more
importantly, did the remaining LCL in her plug help Asuka's wounds
heal from the multiple impalements from the production Evas' lances?
