I asked a Japanese friend what Shito means to them, and naturally they 
thought of Eva.  Asking them to set aside their inner otaku for a bit 
and explain what it means outside the context of Eva, he started 
describing Christ's apostles.  But then he agreed with me that they are 
angels, which I said as katakana, and his opinion is that they probably 
didn't use the word tenshi since they wanted to use a less mainstream 
word to sound more impressive.
