Got to reading it.  So as everyone has said mainly EoE.  At least Shinji has some thoughts attributed to him, & seems worn out & uncaring rather than mental jelly as in the movie.

His scene with Asuka in the hiospital will (hopefully) make a difference later.  In the manga, Shinji has no self-disgust about his sexual behaviour & other things, & possibly when he hears Asuka fighting (if Sadamoto goes that route), he might re-invigorate some.  As far as I want to think at this stage.
