[EVA] Rebuild movie 1 - any viewings?

Three thoughts on Rebuild: Is this the end of Eva? The
end of Anno? The end of Gainax?

1) The new character is female. No surprise. I am 100%
sure that she will be some kind of glyph for Moyoco
Anno. Shinji will fall in love with her. Her hobby is
drawing. You heard that last guess here first.

The implication of this is that Eva would finally end.
Evangelion is the show that never ends because we
can't let go of it. We NEED Shinji to find happiness.
That's why there's been a TV ending, EoE, Revival,
Re-take, Rebuild, three official mangas, a million
doujin, fan-whatever and the reason people still post
on the Eva Monkey forums EVERY DAY over a decade after
the show ended.

We can't. let. it. go.

BUT! If Shinji finds love in Rebuild, it will finally
be over-- Shinji's sad story will end. Rebuild could
very well be the true, final, happy ending End of
Evangelion, for better or worse. And that will be the
end of the Eva phenomenon.

2) Budget. So many of Anno's signature directing moves
(the held frame, still-image montages of Japanese
street scenes, signs, etc) derive from a low budget. I
think it's been a great boon, forcing Gainax over many
years to take animation in places it's never been
(look also at Imaishi's use of panning still images).
But most importantly, budget played the biggest role
in creating the messiest, most fascinating ending in
animation history, the reason we're all here: the
complete breakdown of budget, plot, and mind that is
the end of Eva TV.

But what will happen to Anno on a big budget? Will he
continue to innovate as a director or become the
Japanese George Lucas (sipping UCC coffee)?

3) Anno and Gainax are splitsville. I'm surprised no
one has pointed this out yet. I tried pointing this
out on the Eva Monkey forums but was argued with by
moronic 12 year olds. The Eva films seem to license
the Eva copyrights from Gainax (knowing Gainax it was
probably done on a napkin signed by Yasuhiro Takeda),
and Gainax founders are involved, but otherwise Gainax
has no role in the films.

If anyone doubts me, look at the situation: Anno now
helms an animation studio capable of making Miyazaki
or Satoshi Kon-level animated feature films. He's the
boss. He's in charge. Khara has offices, animators and
computers (as mentioned in Newtype). After Rebuild,
why would he go back to Gainax? It wouldn't make
sense. He's building Khara with films guaranteed to
sell: Eva. I can't imagine him going back to the
budget constraints of TV anime. He will make feature
films. Where? Khara.

If my understanding is correct, it's possible that
many or all of the Gainax greats (Sadamoto, etc) will
jump ship to Khara. Is this the end of Gainax? Stay
tuned (hopefully with service service!).
