[EVA] Rebuild movie 1 - any viewings?

Harsh, but a good thing to point out. Misato eventually becomes one  
of the series' most admirable characters, but first she has to learn  
how much she's been lied to. I suppose considering Misato's position  
at NERV, she has no reason to act other than as a drill sergeant to  
Shinji when they first meet; his emotional needs and family issues  
are not a priority. Of course, Misato never quite loses her  
sergeant's persona either, and in many ways it comes back to the fore  
in THE END OF EVANGELION; after all, whether she likes the situation  
or not, Shinji is still needed to pilot.

I take the opinion that we're all harsh to the Children, especially  
Shinji and Asuka, but also Rei--judging them on their personalities  
and the choices they make while often forgetting what's quite  
obvious--the limited options they have, and the tremendous influence  
others have over their lives. They're not grown, independent adults  
by any stretch of the imagination. How many of us would like even our  
ordinary lives to be judged at fourteen--that's it, put down your  
pencils, you're done?
