While it is true, and it has been debated already, that the translations M
used to provide were copyrighted material, it is entirely debatable that
they'd take from the sales (of any version, for not everybody here lives in
the US). On the other hand, it seems pretty straightforward that you didn't
bother reasoning your argument and charged ahead.
If anything, the translations have been, as far as a number a people I know
on this list goes, an aid in seeing how good or bad official translations
have been. I've also gotten the Japanese version, come to think of it.
They have provided material for discussion, and if anything they've
established the quality of M's translations and consolidated his reputation,
so that when he shared information that nobody else had bothered with which
was pretty damn important about Eva, it wasn't on the same level as the
rumor crap that has flooded the Net for a decade when it comes to Eva, it
was the real deal.
If, on the other hand, it is your custom to use the translations not to have
to buy the manga, sad of you. If you couldn't put your point in any other
way than you did, I guess you were thinking about yourself and, as yanks
say, the truth hurts.
