The shot of Kaworu in the OP is the exact shot—or its prototype— of
Kaworu during his descent to Terminal Dogma in #24' when he talks about
the AT field being the "wall that everyone has in their heart". It
should also be again noted here that Kaworu's OP flash appears after the
"Absolute Terror Field" caption.
From this, it might be supposed that perhaps Kaworu's original purpose,
among other things, was to be the character who explained what AT Fields
were, or gave some insight into them. If so, this was once of the
functions he actually carried out. In other words, he would be a
character of some importance.
The description of the cut of Kaworu in the OP adds ("The last Angel")

Now, it should be mentioned that the OP material "the storyboards and
Eva tomo no kai". It didn't have script page provided for it like the
episodes. You'd have to ask Reichu where this description comes from
exactly.
Has anyone checked the original VHS episodes intro? Or better yet, the
originally broadcasted intros? I'd like to confirm that Kaworu was in
fact there.
