[EVA] Misato and Shinji

I went & watched the scene again - bearing the views discussed.

My opinion is that Misato is offering sisterly/motherly comfort & nothing
more. Whether Shinji (& by extension those emphasising with him) consider
she is offering sex, is slightly more questionable. But Shinji's POV is
hardly the most solid to go by.

It seems most obvious Shinji is in a "leave me alone" state of mind, not
wanting any human contact & only to withdraw into himself with his music. As
in the train scene & all the others where he shuts out everything. Of course
this state of mind is what causes the EoE/ep.25 scenario eventually. It is
part of Shinji's way of surviving the unbearable overwhelming situations he
is forced into.

Inside his Evangelion fighting is another cut-off escape from the outside
world. There Shinji is alone & has partial control of his shrunk world, &
its outcome. When that control is seized from him, eludes him, or used
against him is when he snaps. as he is then prisoner & there is no escape.
Cue Yui to the rescue.

Evangelion, & other anime, have themes of how Japanese parents seem unable
to treat children as children. Either neglecting them, of driving them too
hard with too high expectations. Children bond, love, form their own
associations in most stories to help them through. Shinji has none - Asuka
is closest - but then there is the "hegehog's dilemma".

The very fact that the issue *constantly* gets challenged, that there are
3-5 separate threads you had to link to independently questioning it, sort
of proves my point that it was a "controversial" and "not exactly proven"
position, which should have *at best* been presented as "a theory", *not* as
"received fact"
