I don't believe that scene was in the original Death. Our only way to find out for certain is to get a copy of the Death filmbook which was compiled based on the original theatrical edit. But it's not that the original Death contained all of the footage that would eventually be found in the Director's Cut scenes. There was an extended period of time after the films premiered in which Gainax was still working on the director's cut footage, it wasn't done before the movies.
