Yeah. That matches my recollection as well. Some enterprising fan with too 
much time on their hands could probably make an interesting site comparing 
the Death filmbook to Death (true) as recorded from Wowow to Death(true^2) 
as released commercially. The fact that Gainax had the film re-edited before 
it aired on TV just to keep people from taping it and thinking that they 
could then skip the upcoming home video releases amuses me.

Likewise, I wonder if anyone can find a television series that has been 
released on DVD as many times in different versions as Evangelion has. I 
think Evil Dead beats it for most times a single film has been released, but 
for a series? We've got at least three different releases, the original DVD 
pressing, the Second Impact Box Sets, the Renewal of Evangelion...
