No. He's happy at the end of episode 26, because it corresponds to that point when he accepts Instrumentality and gets this really blithe smile across his face in End of Eva....but after experiencing it, realizes it isn't real happiness at all.
The message of the show *wasn't* that he'd magically get instantly united with everyone around him, that's easy and a fantasy; the message was that he'd rather live in an apocalyptic real world, with simply the *possibility* of working out a real relationship with Asuka.

Shinji doesn't lose his body until the very end of TV 25 mind you. Any such edit would have to be a lot more than just "Put the TV ending in the middle of EoE" since you also have the glimpses of the real world scenes such as Asuka in the EVA and Dead Misato and Ritsuko to deal with.
I'm being nitpicky because you're so adamant that your interpretation is the one true ending, but it seems like you haven't thought it out all the way. And if you want to convince others of your theories, you have to be able to back them up.
Want to try that again?

@ To me *all* EoE comes before the TV ending, if the 2 must be er..complemented..together. The "on the beach" end of EoE is as apocalyptic, as what led up to it.
So all EoE is what Misato reprimanded Shinji for at the end of 25, it is all covered by the smashed floodlights visual metaphor.
Episode 26 is the true ending of the whole original saga. Shinji is complete, complemented, reunited with friends & family (as he wanted). And finally happy. (The jelly-Shinji in EoE was all as a result of his state of mind, worst fears & global death-wish nightmare scenario).
