[EVA] DVD bitrates and "Holiday Edition" extras?

As my consumption is more or less limited to R1 releases, my personal favorites are the ADV Platinum 'thick pack' releases. The animatics extras that I've watched are entertaining (V - they do seem to be from actual film sources), and make nice teaching tools from a production standpoint according to a couple of professional animators I've loaned them to. I thought the commentaries from the voicer cast were entertaining. The booklets packed in are nice as well. And - while of minimal relative value - the packaging is very pretty. (I still need to pick up the last volume from that set, though. Should probably hustle on that...) My impression is that the 'holiday edition' is just a physical repackage of the thick-packed version's disks, minus the booklets and larger-format packaging elements. But I haven't directly compared the two releases first-hand. It's also been a couple of years since I've watched them.

IIRC Platinum itself already had lower bitrates than Renewal. In that case,
I'd recommend as the "set to hunt down" for posterity, the original Renewal
boxset. AFAIK that's Eva in its best quality.
