[EVA] The Adults Kiss in vol.12

this raises an interesting point RJN: what sort of copyright laws come into
play with anime re-releases? I mean, how ADV had to grab actors to redub Aoba,
Maya, etc. for the director's cut....though I *believe* they didn't have that
many new scenes in the director's cuts, which would require new English
dialogue....

What I mean is, in theory, could a future re-release of End of Eva re-dub Hyuga
and only Hyuga? Or get Allison Keith-Shipp to re-record just that one
problematic line about the 18th Angel and Lilith? Or, as you would like, to
remove the F-word use and replace it with something else?

I would imagine that simply *deleting* dialogue or sound effects is easier:
there are those who would want "hit 'em again!" removed. I'm trying to set more
realistic/pragmatic goals (so as not to sound unreasonable, and thus get better
chances of someone actually making these changes)....I myself would push to
remove the "splat!" sound effect when Misato kills that JSSDF commando with a
headshot (it was a dramatic scene....human beings are being killed....why did
you feel the need to make it funny?)......

Generally I'm fairly forgiving to them in general....simply because I understand
that they don't speak Japanese and honestly believed what their translator told
them....but their translator was incorrect. This isn't a matter of opinion
about adaptation or something, it was flatly wrong (the 18th Angel line). So
there should be no need to push for a change, because any rational person should
acknowledge that isn't what the actual line is.

Whatever.

I do understand from what FUNimation and others have said, that re-releasing End
of Eva would be a nightmare due to all of the companies involved in the funding
on the production committee at the time, which they'd have to get back together
and argue with.

Even so, is there a legal reason they can't just replace the dialogue of ONE
character? Its not as if they filmed all at the same time in the same room, it
was layered. Wouldn't that make replacing it easier?

I wish they had got a Maya that sounded like the Japanese Maya, not ADV's, which
was the worst casting of the TV series IMO.

Hyuga, I didn't notice too much, I would listen again if I could bear it, but I
can't.

The dub *and* subtitles wrong translation of the 18th Angel is probably Gaijin's
worst mistake. But not most obvious. The f-obscenities, were so heinous to me
(the first being subtitled as well), that anything else (apart from the story
itself) seemed trivial.
