The last survivor of the three founding brothers for Tatsunoko once 
mentioned that, since Gainax staffers were always late when working as 
in-between animators to deliver material, when Tatsunoko did some of the 
in-betweens on Eva for Gainax in turn they, too, delivered them late on 
purpose.
