Sometimes they are, but you can also misread some of the expressions
while reading the subtitles.  You read the subtitles, but there's no
emotion unless you are paying more attention to what's actually
happening.  That's why I watch both sub and dub when possible
especially with Eva.  I started off watching the subs and realized I
was missing a lot of what was happening on the screen after watching
the dubs and not needing to look down at the bottom of the screen all
the time.  I usually find myself having to watch subs at least 4 or 5
times before I understand everything that goes on when it takes only
once or twice with dubs.  I actually find it useful to watch both
because you can get the advantages of both.  It does suck to have to
spend $55 USD for every two episodes.  That's why my roomate buys one
set and I buy the other.  Makes watching them cheaper.  :)
