[EVA] Another Question

I have another question.  What us with all of the crosses that are
used.  Cross like with the second angel that kicked unit one's ass.
Whenever it blew something up the blast would travle down a street then
spread into a cross like symbol.  Even when it blew up the blast was in
the shape of a cross.  And what was that cross sticking out  of the
entry plug port of Unit Zero after it went berzerk before episode one.
