     Rei must have a navel. Forget about all those science. Just think 
     when Rei is at school, she needs to do sports lesson, right? She needs
     to change clothes with other girls in changing rooms, right? Her
     naked body will be seen by other "normal" girls, right? Rei's being
     a clone is supposed to be a top secret in NERV, right? So in order
     to make Rei appear as normal (at least physcially), she's got to 
     have a navel. QED.
