How do you spell Gendou, or Gendoh, or Gendouh, or Gendo???
And Toji, or Touji, or Touhji, or Tohji???
I always see these two names spelled differently everywhere. And I'm not sure
who to believe.
## Problem with the transliteration of the long vowel in Japanese.
##
## Japanese add a "U" at the end of certain syllables to mean that they
## are supposed to be pronounced as long vowel. Now here comes the problem:
## by literally translating character by character, you would have
## "Touji" or "Gendou". However, some translators argue that "u" is not
## used to represent a long sound in English, so a big school of translation
## use "h" instead of the "u", and you get "Tohji" or "Gendoh".
## As for "Toji" and "Gendo", people are just lazy, and it is not recommended
## because long sound is very important in Japanese. Meaning can be totally
## different with or without a long sound.
## "Touhji" or "Gendouh", meanwhile, are overdone. I rarely see such way of
## translation.
