YES, that's why the Japanese kanji have already been simplified to begin
w/!!
## In fact the extent of simplification of kanji is smaller in Japanese
## than in Chinese! Another point worth noting is that the ways the kanji
## is simplified are different in Chinese and Japanese. That could be
## a trap for those who know Chinese before they learn Japanese because
## the Japanese often treat the Chinese way of writing as incorrect.
Both Mainland China and Singapore have simplified characters
too!! Only Taiwan and Hong Kong Chinese are regular ones.
## Actually people learning the non-simplified Chinese characters are
## the minority.
Say, in the manga of Ruroni Kenshin, its story happens during the Meiji
Restoration, the author purposely
uses lots and lots of kanji for even the common words that are usually
presented in kana nowadays, he wants to give readers a feel of the old
## All the manga/novels that depicted the old times (like the Heian Age,
## or the Warring States Period) often used old words.
Japan, i.e. arigatou (Thank you), usually it's written in hiragana
"a-ri-ga-tou", but this word has a kanji as well (I was suprised), though
## This is actually not uncommon to see "arigatou" written in kanji in
## modern Japan. It consists of kanji of "Ari" (be) and kanji of
## "Muzukashii" (difficult).
## Another example is "sasuga", which can be written in the kanji of
## "flowing" and "stone".
not normally used. And the kanji for "urusai" (be quiet) is even funnier,
it's literally written w/ characters "May" and "fly", I have no idea how
they came up with that (^_^).
