I have the EVA 01 and 02 in HG,and 01 in the smaller version.
both the HG's have very good detailing, my personal experience is to use 
flat paints to paint what little is not molded in the color it is 
featured in the series

Use TESTORS MODEL MASTER paints (Oil based acrylics)
FLAT BLACK
LIGHT GULL GRAY(entry plug)
BRASS(entry plug)
CHROME SILVER
GLOSS YELLOW(eyes of Eva 01)
STOP SIGNAL RED(makes as excellent blood for battle scenes)
TURN SIGNAL AMBER(gives the eyes a metallic look,use with gloss yellow)

TESTOR PACTRA PAINTS (water based acrylics)
GUNMETAL(dry brushing for armor plates damaged in combat along with 
chrome silver)
